The Newseum updates their Pulitzer Prize Photography exhitbit on Aug. 1, 2016 and will reopen Sept. 16, 2016. Last year I had the pleasure of experiencing this exhibit and it was truly breath taking. These photos do not just tell you a story, these photographs are multi layered.

You become immersed in the form, style and beauty of the artistically crafted photos. Looking pasted the stunning visuals there is a story of the subjects, you can see the pain, joy, or fear. The third layer that I like to think about is the the story of the photographer.

In film there is a concept called The Zero Degree Theory, which means the audience should not know that what they are viewing is not real because it is a film. Taking this theory to photojournalism still works because it is not like the audience is viewing exactly what reality is. There was an artistic touch, editing, and other variety of choices that goes into publishing one photo. This theory is thrown out the window when try thinking about the photographer of the photo. However, trying to answer questions about the man or woman who took this photo is a very fun game for me.

How did they get this picture? How were they not in the way of the locals? Were they ever in danger to get this photo? How many other photos are there that they picked from to find this gem? What is their training? How much gear did they bring with them?

In today's day an age, with great cameras in everyone's back pocket it's hard not to put yourself in the lot of Instagram famous people. These questions solitifies the genuine feelings I have for photography and reduces the doubts when I feel this is just a passing fad.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers!
